Douglas Fidler is
from St. Andrew, Jamaica. He attended Wolmers Boys and migrated in 1977 where he
went to Pace University. He joined forces with his father, Keith Fidler, in
distributing and writing for the Gleaner and later branched off into freelance
radio and journalism. In addition to WVKR, he can be heard on WJAB 90.9 FM (Alabama), WRTN
93.5 FM, and WWRL 1600 AM.
In January of 1998, he fell victim to kidney failure and was on dialysis for a
year and a half before he was fortunate enough to get a transplant. He has since
been an avid crusader for people, especially black men who are prone to
hypertension to get regular checks and become aware of the effects of
hypertension. It was hypertension that caused his kidneys to fail. He is also
involved in encouraging people to become aware of the positive effects of organ
donation and the difference it makes in the lives of people with failed
organs.
He is proud to be associated with
Dexie B, and everyone else at WVKR who have devoted their time and effort
to try to make a difference in our community.
